SPRING 2015 AERIALS RELEASES
2011 HORSE HEAVEN RESERVE MERLOT
Technically released in 2014 many of you have not yet had the chance to taste this wine, and it is really hitting on all cylinders right now so we had to include this in your shipment. It is amazing!
With a round profile and a dense, saturated mid palate, this is a Merlot with a great deal of scale. The flavor profile is a beautiful sort of compote of fresh Blackberries, Marion berry, and Blueberry over roasted Vanilla meringue. This wine will age incredibly well for 10 yrs and beyond.
Side Note: It was Merlot that directly inspired the beginnings of Revelry Vintners. The singular wine that sparked an interest, which lead to a passion, that spiraled into a company was a 1998 Merlot from the Horse Heaven Hills AVA. That wine set the bar for quality way back then - that standard persists today.
At 101 cases this is the most Grenache we have ever bottled in a single release. That is a serious statement in and of itself. It tells you that we are incredibly intent on producing only the finest Grenache. It is a very difficult grape to grow, and our last two releases have some of the best growers and winemakers in this state wondering how we are able to achieve such color and definition. While we won't divulge our secrets, trust in the fact this is a special wine. Of the two blocks we source from, we use only Block 30B at Alder Ridge Vineyard in this bottling. Set on a bench 200 ft. above the mighty Columbia River, this block of Grenache is planted in sand laden soils and ensconced in an amphitheater of exposed Basalt bluffs. The radiant heat in this area is incredible, though it is tempered by the river itself. The amount of water moved through the Columbia River Gorge is incomprehensible and all that water acts to moderate the surrounding air temperature. This, in tandem with steady air flow through the gorge, works to protect the vines from heat and cold. You are essentially left with a convection oven - an environment of high and very consistent heat units perfect for ripening Grenache.
2012 BLOCK 18 SYRAH
Building off of a phenomenal first release of the 2011 vintage - this wine is truly dialed in. 2012 is already being lauded as a nearly perfect vintage in Washington State and it shows here. While this particular clone wants to create very dark and brooding wine, a 30% whole cluster fermentation regime works to add expressive aromatics and layer after layer of silky flavor to the wine in the glass. This wine has both incredible scale and length on the palate. There is no shortage of things to appreciate here, and at a mere 101 cases produced it is sure to fly.
Block 18 is planted with the Entav 179 Clone, with origins in the northern part of the Rhone region of France. It ripens late in the season, and matures incredibly slowly. The wine it produces is intensely dark - nearly black, with a distinctively savory quality about it. You really just have to try it!
NOT INCLUDED IN YOUR SHIPMENT BUT EXCLUSIVELY AVAILABLE TO YOU FIRST
Our limited release Rosé is coming soon, but it won't last long. We produced just 80 cases of this wine. It is the delicious result of taking free run juice from two of our most prized lots (Weinbau Vineyard Cab Franc/Alder Ridge Vineyard Grenache) just after harvesting. This process intensifies the resultant red wines, and also allows us to create this amazingly vivid and crisp Rosé. Get it before it is gone!
